Mercer Elementary School
We serve:
Handicapped students in grades K – 8. We come from: East Windsor, Ewing, Hamilton, Hopewell, Lawrence, Monroe, Princeton, Trenton, Washington Township, West Windsor, Millstone, Flemington, Bridgewater, Manalapan, Freehold, Upper Freehold, and a variety of other towns.
We have just moved into our new school (September, 2005) and are using 30 classrooms –
17 for multiply disabled students and 13 for autistic students. The Mustang is our mascot and the school colors are Blue & Gold.
We Offer:
• Speech Therapy • Occupational Therapy • Physical Therapy
• Counseling • Physical Education • Library • Art • Music
We Use:
Portfolio Assessment for academics, therapy and social skills. We encourage students to develop independence, responsibility, good decision making and problem solving skills in addition to academics.
We enjoy and participate in:
• Field trips to enhance and support our academic and social skills
• Community service program for our older students so that we can learn about out strengths and gifts to our school and civic community
• Scholastic Book Fair Program where we can purchase books to read, provide more materials for our school library and of course, encourage our parents to come also and buy some more books!
• Book It! (the Pizza Hut program for encouraging reading!)
• Read Across America programs
• Craft sales (where we make things and sell them to the students, staff, Parents and friends)
• Thanksgiving Luncheon with all of our schoolmates and staff; inviting our families to share in dessert later
• The various assemblies, particularly the hands on programs from the Churchville Nature Center and High Touch High Tech and Mad Science
• The school picnic
• School choirs and school art club
• Special Olympic Sports
• And all of the special programs, plays and projects that we do in our classrooms and within the school!
Oooops, we almost forgot, we enjoy coming to school to learn! Our attendance is GREAT! We also enjoy visitors… please stop by anytime and we will show you what we are learning!
